Mission Statement
The Alpha Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Community Involvement Committee supports charitable initiatives that uphold the mission and values of Alpha Kappa Alpha in the communities we serve.
Purpose
- To aid and support deserving charitable endeavors to nurture, educate, and heal our communities.
- To review requests for funding and sponsorship from charitable endeavors.
- To provide for both responsiveness and flexibility in supporting organizations throughout western Pennsylvania in accordance with committee guidelines.
Guidelines
Eligible recipients shall be identified according to the following guidelines:
- A non-profit organization’s services should primarily benefit persons throughout western Pennsylvania.
- First consideration will be given to those organizations in which chapter members (Alpha Alpha Omega) in good financial standing are involved in some direct way.
- When possible, the Committee will direct its contributions to eligible non-profit organizations in the region which may not benefit from large, national fund raising drives (i.e. American Heart Association, Red Cross, etc.).
- An organization must present proof of Federal tax exemption under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
- Sponsorship requests (i.e. tickets, ads, or tables) should be submitted at least six (6) to eight (8) weeks prior to the event(s).
- Contributions to churches will be limited to scholarships and/or advertisements.
- Completed applications must be submitted in accordance with established guidelines.
- Recognition of Alpha Alpha Omega sponsorship when appropriate (i.e., program book, banners, or advertisements)
Restrictions
- A non-profit organization cannot discriminate against persons on the basis of race, religion, color, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, ancestry or sexual orientation.
- Donations will not be given to religious organizations for religious purposes.
- Donations will not be granted to political fundraisers.
- No contributions to individuals.
- Only one contribution per organization per year
Notification
All requests will be acknowledged by the Community Involvement Committee Chairperson regardless of approval status.
