HBCU Scholarship- CLOSED
Eligibility:

  • Graduating senior from a public, charter, private or parochial high school within Allegheny County
  • Plan to attend an Historically Black College/University (HBCU)
  • Minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Official transcript of grades through first semester of the senior year
  • Copy of respective HBCU college/university acceptance letter
  • Completed application form
  • 500-word essay, typewritten and doubled-spaced: “What do you hope to gain by attending an Historical Black College/University?”
  • Letter of recommendation from a counselor, teacher or administrator
  • Proof of Community Service and Extracurricular Activities
  • Must be available to receive this award at the June Luncheon
  • $1,000 awarded at the June Luncheon

LaRue Fredrick Undergraduate Award- CLOSED
Eligibility:

  • Undergraduate soror currently enrolled in colleges with undergraduate chapters (Alpha Sigma, Kappa Beta, Kappa Zeta, Mu Omicron, and Rho Rho Chapters)
  • Submitted a complete application
  • Minimum 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale
  • Essay
  • $1,000 Award is announced during the Founders' Day Luncheon

Non-Traditional Student Scholarship - CLOSED
Eligibility:

  • Woman, at least 30 years of age, as of June 1st, who has a vision of how an education will benefit her family, community and self
  • Enrolled in  or accepted to an accredited college/ university or pursuing a technical or vocational education
  • Copy of an acceptance or continuation letter from the college/university or technical program of enrollment for the fall semester
  • Minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • An official college transcript that includes at least the first semester of grades for currently enrolled students, or an official high school transcript for accepted students
  • Completed application form
  • 500-word essay, typewritten and doubled-spaced: “How will your education benefit your family, your community and you?”
  • One letter of recommendation from a school administrator, job supervisor or employer
  • One letter of recommendation, documenting community involvement, within the last two years
  • Must be available to receive this award at the June Luncheon
  • $1,000 awarded at the June Luncheon

Black College Tour - CLOSED
Eligibility:

  • 10th or 11th grade student
  • Minimum 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale
  • Applied to one of the local Black College Tours (please contact the organizations for details)
  • Upon the return of the trips, the students will write an essay and present to the General Body of Alpha Alpha Omega Chapter
  • Student selections made by tour organizers: Mary L. Stone, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and NEED
  • Gifts awarded during the April General Body Meeting

Madelyn Hairston Giddens Scholarship: NEED Adopt-A-Student - CLOSED
Eligibility:

  • Senior high school student or returning college student
  • Selection and monitored by NEED
  • $1,000 to be awarded annually for four years directly from NEED
  • Recognition to be made at the June Luncheon
